Fraternity: A Journey in Search of Five Presidents

In honor of President's Day tomorrow, I am recommending a book that recently came to mind after a discussion at book club. The book is called Fraternity: A Journey in Search of Five Presidents by Bob Greene. The book is a quick, easy read that gives insight into the personal lives of five former presidents: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush. These men comprise the most exclusive fraternity in the world, that of President of the United States of America.

It was fascinating to learn things about these men that we in the public never see. Getting a "behind the scenes" look at these men made you realize they are normal people who just happened to make it to the most powerful political position on earth. You really get to see their personalities up close and personal. After reading the book, President Ford definitely was my favorite. Interesting tidbits about Pres. Ford are his favorite movie is Mrs. Doubtfire and he took his first trip to Washington D.C. because he was voted the most popular high school student in his city.

So in honor of President's Day, why not pick this book up at the library and learn a little bit more about five of our former presidents? If you want something with more substance, my husband is currently reading John Adams by David McCullough and says it is excellent.

  1. I bought the John Adams series(HBO series, adapted from the McCullough book) for Norm for Christmas and we are totally loving it--if your hubby wants to borrow it when we are done, he can!

PS--I made Norm a collage card for Valentine's Day and it turned out cute--I did it in word, so not as cute as if I had used a different program, but I'm still trying to figure that out!
